From Hong Kong to Bali Belly

Having escaped the winter weather in Canada, Hong Kong’s warm breeze was soothing and encouraged one to venture out into the streets. I guess for most this means go shopping. With only 1 week to spare, I ventured to Bali to experience what was expected to be surfing paradise.

Rapture Surf Camp was located in a more sheltered and less tourist damaged part of southern Bali. It hosted all necessary amenities; Snicker bars, Surfboards and Sexwax. What else do you really need?

The 300+ monkeys roaming the Sacred Temple in Ubud will really manage to trigger your love for other domestic animals. At first glance, their human like gestures make you approach them with a naïve loving nature. Long behold, one minute later they are hissing in your face, swarming your every footstep and stealing your water bottle; your only escape from the scorching heat. The weather turned and the monkeys got more than what they bargained for. The rain fell down in copious quantities as we pursued shelter from the storm.

Bali Belly made sure to entertain all it’s guests. From one dorm room to the other, surfers dropped in from their bunk bed and rode a long 8-second crosswalk straight to the toilet. Luckily the line was not too crowded. We deviated only slightly from surf etiquette, giving the right of way to those that hurled the loudest. Of course, everyone did their best to avoid “ditching their board” before reaching the final destination. Samo and Made, our surf guides kept us laughing, smiling and surfing throughout our stay. The sceneries were impeccable, the reefs were shallow, and the surf was awesome. 3-8 ft love from Bali will tend your surfing heart.

Bali “Belly” over and out!
